Don’t Feed the Bears!
Don’t feed the bears!
A recent visitor to Yellowstone National Park told how as they entered the park he was given a flyer from a park ranger. Near the top in bold letters was the warning, “Please do not feed the bears”. After driving a short distance in the park, he noticed several cars beside the road. It was obvious what was going on. They were feeding the bears. He spotted the Ranger so he asked “why not feeding the Bears” was an important thing. The Ranger told him the obvious reason was the danger of getting injured or becoming lunch to the Bears. The ranger also stated that every spring they had to drive through the park and pick up the bodies of bears who had starved, because they had forgotten how to hunt for food themselves. They had grown so used to someone feeding them their natural instinct to hunt had failed.
It seems when we are younger and have a family to feed that it is easy to prepare a large meal. Preparation and cooking seems to be the natural thing for us to do.
Now, perhaps, the nest is empty. Meal time doesn’t seem to be as essential as before. Why prepare a 2 pound roast for just one or two people. We may try to get by with less for convenience sake when in reality good nourishment is still a vital importance.
Our world has become busy. With our busyness, has come the hurry up for a quick meal from the Word of God. There seems to be less need of a deep dive type of Bible study when we’ve been in church 40–50 years. We’ve heard every subject imaginable taught and preached on.
As I am of the sage age child of God, I can’t always expect my pastor to come up with everything I need to maintain my strengths.
The Word of the Lord still holds many fresh truths and gems of spiritual nourishment.
I may have been strong in my youth, and I refuse to just dry up and starve and just look the part. I must continually hunt the Word of God to find nourishment.
